Will The Walking Dead be renewed for season 12?
When you stop and really think about it, it’s amazing to think that a show about the zombie apocalypse has lasted over 10 years. The Walking Dead defied the odds and has been on the air for over a decade. Now heading into season 11, will The Walking Dead be renewed for season 12?
AMC has been a steadfast supporter of this series, which follows a group of survivors in Robert Kirkman’s post-apocalyptic, zombie-filled landscape. The show has inspired two (and soon to be four) spinoffs, several video games, books and comics, in addition to a vibrant global fan community.
The Walking Dead will end after season 11
The series will come to an end after an extended season 11, which debuts on August 22, 2021. There will be 24 episodes in the final season, up from the normal 16 episodes we’ve gotten every season since the show’s six-episode freshman run.
The first eight episodes of season 11 will premiere on August 22. The rest will air in 2022, with eight more episodes likely airing in the spring and the final eight likely to air in the fall. With the survivors reaching the end of their journey, anything can happen in this final stretch.
But the end of The Walking Dead show doesn’t mean the end of the The Walking Dead franchise. There are multiple spinoffs on the way, including one focusing on TWD mainstays Carol and Daryl and an anthology series called Tales of The Walking Dead, which will premiere in 2023.
The two spinoffs will join the Rick Grimes movies, Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond and whatever other shows the network has planned. While there will be no season 12 for The Walking Dead, there will be plenty of TWD content coming in the future.
