AMC has given an eight-episode order to a book based on Anne Rice’s seminal classic Interview with the Vampire. Variety reports that the studio tapped Alan Taylor to direct the first two episodes of the series.
Taylor is widely known for his work on shows like The Sopranos, Sex and the City and Lost. He also directed several episodes of AMC’s Mad Men, including the pilot episode. He was behind the camera for major features like Thor: The Dark World and Terminator: Genisys, and directed seven episodes of Game of Thrones, including “Baelor,” where Ned Stark loses his head.
With such a strong pedigree, Taylor is a perfect fit to bring Anne Rice’s world to life now that AMC has committed to developing a television franchise based on her work.
From Game of Thrones to Interview with the Vampire
“Alan Taylor is a legendary director and someone we have real history with, going back to the first episode of Mad Men,” said Dan McDermott, the president of original programming at AMC Networks and AMC Studios. “We are assembling a true dream team of talent on Interview with the Vampire, from Rolin Jones to Mark Johnson and now with the addition of Alan, a director with a body of work that could basically break IMDb.”
Rolin Jones will serve as writer and showrunner, and Taylor, Jones, Johnson, Anne Rice and Christopher Rice will all executive produce.
Welcome to the Vampire Chronicles Cinematic Universe
AMC is developing more than one show based on Anne Rice’s books. The network holds the rights to both The Vampire Chronicles and The Lives of the Mayfair Witches, and with dozens of books between the two series there is plenty of room to create a franchise that will last a very long time.
McDermott notes that the team is fortunate to be working with Rice’s vibrant world of colorful characters. “We are so excited to be where we are on this series, and there is so much more to come.”
Expect the Interview With the Vampire show to premiere on AMC sometime in 2022.
