No, Lucifer isn’t getting another surprise renewal

There will be no hail Mary this time around for Lucifer. Co-showrunner Joe Henderson confirms that Lucifer season 6 will be the end of the road for the beloved series. Henderson confirmed this via Twitter, signaling an end of an era for the show that would not give up even if hell freezes over.

Netflix will be hosting a Lucifer panel at Comic-Con@Home during this upcoming San Diego Comic-Con weekend, July 23-25. That led fans to wonder whether there might be an announcement of a seventh season of the show. After all, Netflix saved the show when Fox cancelled it, and then gave it a surprise sixth season when it was originally supposed to end at five.

Henderson responded to a tweet from journalist Merrill Barr, who referenced a possible renewal for the series. “Ha! I can confirm that ain’t happening,” Henderson replied.

Lucifer season 6 is the end of the road

Lucifer fans have braved cancellation before. The show was dropped in 2018 by Fox after its third season, but a wave of global support on social media led Netflix to renew the series for a fourth.

Little did anyone know, the series would become a massive hit for Netflix so the streamer granted the show a fifth season, and then eventually a sixth and final season.

Co-showrunners Henderson and Ildy Modrovich noted that they were only able to sign on for season 6 because they found a solid story that fit after the massive story arc that played out over the course of season 5. The pandemic delayed the release of the second half of season 5, which aired in May. Season 6 has been filmed and is currently in post-production, with no airdate available. It’s very possible that Netflix will reveal the season 6 premiere during their Comic-Con panel, but it’s important to temper expectations because there will not be a surprise announcement of another season.
