Everything’s coming up Dune! Just the other day, Warner Bros. dropped a new trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Hebert’s classic sci-fi epic. And now, Variety reports that an HBO Max TV prequel series, Dune: The Sisterhood, has a new showrunner.

Dune: The Sisterhood is about the enigmatic Bene Gesserit sisterhood, powerful players in a far future feudal system who train themselves to have extraordinary control over their bodies and minds. Warner Bros. ordered the show straight to series in 2019 and signed Villeneuve up to direct the pilot, but things hit a snag when original showrunner Jon Spaihts left to focus on writing the sequel to the proper Dune movie.

We hadn’t heard anything about the show in a while and wondered if it might be dead, but nothing doing: Diane Ademu-John will take over as writer, showrunner and executive producer.

Dune: The Sisterhood is a prequel to Dune

Ademu-John has a lot of experience under her belt, having worked on shows like EmpireThe OriginalsThe Vampire DiariesMediumCrossing Jordan and most recently The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix. Dune: The Sisterhood is one of several HBO Max shows that will tie into big upcoming movies, like how Peacemaker ties into The Suicide Squad and how Gotham PD will link up with The Batman.

As for what Dune: The Sisterhood is actually about, that’s harder to know. The Dune universe has a lot of lore, and Frank Herbert’s own son Brian Herbert — who’s written many Dune books of his own since his father passed away in 1986 — is on board as an executive producer, so I’m sure they’ll be able to come up with something.

The Dune movie comes out in theaters and on HBO Max on October 22. As for Dune: The Sisterhood, it’s anybody’s guess.
