San Diego Comic-Con 2021 might look a little different with its Comic-Con@Home format, but the spirit of Hall H was alive and well as The Walking Dead Universe took over Saturday programming with three hours of announcements, news and sneak peeks. The three panels, featuring cast members and showrunners from The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead, discussed the upcoming seasons of all three shows.

Premiere dates for all three shows were announced, along with news that new episodes will air early on AMC+.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2

The big World Beyond news from the Comic-Con@Home panel was that the show, about a group of teenagers who grew up after the zombie apocalypse began, will return on Sunday, October 3 at 10:00 p.m. EST on AMC. The other news is that a new group of season regulars will join the main cast, including Joe Holt, Jelani Alladin, Natalie Gold and Ted Sutherland.

The Walking Dead chief content officer Scott M. Gimple noted that while the second and final season of World Beyond sets up a lot of key information about Rick Grimes and the Civic Republic Military, which ties into the Rick Grimes movies that are planned, Grimes himself will not appear on the show.

The panel also featured a clip from the new season, but no trailer:

The cast of World Beyond missed out on the opportunity to feel the thrill of a Hall H panel. The show’s premiere was pushed back to October 2020, and thanks to the pandemic they were unable to attend San Diego Comic-Con in person either this year or last.

Fear the Walking Dead season 7

After an explosive end to Fear the Walking Dead season 6 which saw nuclear bombs falling all across the landscape, the Comic Con@Home panel focused on the fallout from the season and how it will impact the show moving forward. Showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg hinted that the events of the season 6 finale will change everything moving forward.

Season 7 will premiere on October 17 at 9:00 p.m. EST on AMC. The upcoming season will feature new faces, with Sydney Lemmon and Omid Abtahi returning and newcomer Gus Halper joining the cast. Additional cast announcements will be forthcoming.

As with World Beyond, there was no trailer for Fear the Walking Dead, but there were two clips released:

The Walking Dead season 11

The first eight episodes of The Walking Dead’s final season kick off on August 22, and fans have been eager to see the official trailer for the new season. They weren’t disappointed:

New cast members were announced as well. Laila Robins and Josh Hamilton will join Margot Bingham and Michael James Shaw in the new season, with Robins playing Pamela Milton and Shaw playing Lance Hornsby.

After three hours of TWD content at Comic-Con@Home, there’s no question that the zombie franchise is as strong as ever as it moves into a new era. The original series might be coming to an end but there’s still a lot to look forward to in the future.
