Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is officially in production! Director Peyton Reed tweeted out the good news, which featured the creepy killer stuffed bunny that Scott (Paul Rudd) gave to his daughter in the previous films. It’s a thing of nightmares, folks:
This announcement comes on the heels of the season finale of Loki, which blew up the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the most epic of ways. The multiverse is officially a go now, and the cherry on top is that the Loki finale actually had a direct tie-in into Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
How Loki will cross over with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
I’m talking about Jonathan Majors, who made his formal debut during the Loki finale as Kang the Conqueror, or rather a variant of Kang who goes by the name, “He Who Remains.”
This Kang variant died in the Loki episode, which will lead to other, more tyrannical versions of him sweeping through the multiverse. We already know that Kang will show up in Ant-Man 3, and he probably won’t be quite as friendly as he was in Loki.
In the comics, Kang is a villainous warlord out to conquer other dimensions. We know from Avengers: Endgame that the only way to travel through dimensions (as of now) is via the Quantum Realm, so it makes sense that Kang would show up in a movie called Quantumania.
On the page, Kang the Conqueror has connections to Reed Richards, Doctor Doom, and others. We all know that Marvel is giving us a Fantastic Four film sooner or later, and the introduction of Kang could start leading up to that.
Principal photography has only just begun on Ant-Man 3, but fans have so many questions about what this movie will be about. There are no official plot details yet, but we do know that Paul Rudd will return as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne/Wasp. It’s safe to assume Michael Douglas (Hank Pym) and Michelle Pfeiffer (Janet van Dyne) will also return, but that unconfirmed at this point.
Ant-Man 3 will round out several films all about the multiverse; it’ll be preceded by Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness. Between that and the second season of Loki, whenever it comes out, we’ve got tons of reality-warping Marvel content to look forward to in the foreseeable future.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania warps into theaters on February 17, 2023.
