The Walking Dead season 11 reveals first look at its new Governor
By Ashley Hurst
The final season of The Walking Dead is just around the corner, and they’re pulling out all the stops to make this the biggest season yet. For instance, we’ll be introduced to the highly advanced and heavily populated network of communities known as the Commonwealth. It’s governed by Pamela Milton, who looks innocent on the surface, but don’t get on her bad side.
We now have an official image of Laila Robins (The Boys, The Handmaid’s Tale) as Pamela Milton. She looks welcoming enough. I’m a big fan of that scarecrow brooch. However, all is not what it seems. Take a look:
The zombie drama has already had one well-known villain who declared themselves a Governor: Philip Blake, played by David Morrissey. Blake ruled over Woodbury and was the main villain of the show in seasons 3 and 4. There’s a huge difference between him and Pamela, though. While Philip Blake’s community had around 100 residents, the Commonwealth is home to around 50,000 survivors.
Milton enforces a very specific class system throughout the Commonwealth. She believes that the best way to utilize everyone is to give them the same jobs they did prior to the apocalypse, with most residents being split into two classes: high and low. She’s not the only antagonistic character in her community. Her son Sebastian — who has not been cast yet — is another self-entitled big bad.
Laila Robins is a pretty good likeness to the comic book character, too. Kudos to the casting team!
First look at Lance Hornsby in The Walking Dead season 11!
Another recurring character in the Commonwealth is Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton), who is basically the chief administrator. He’s the guy who asks the questions and welcomes our survivors into the walls, giving everyone the grand tour.
Those two characters were in Robert Kirkman’s graphic novels, so at least we know a bit about them. The final season is also introducing a new terrifying group of villains called the Reapers. We’ve saw one of them in the season 10 episode “Home Sweet Home,” a skilled sniper trying to pick off Daryl, Maggie and her group. Before blowing himself up, the Reaper said, “Pope marked you,” and we haven’t seen these villains since.
The Walking Dead begins its eleventh and final season on August 22 on AMC.
