Patrick Stump is known as the lead vocalist and guitarist in the pop rock band Fall Out Boy, but it seems he’s pushing beyond that and into Marvel territory. The singer-songwriter revealed that he wrote all the music for an upcoming Spider-Man cartoon Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends.

Coming to Disney Junior, Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends will see three different Spider-Men heading out on adventures and fighting villains: Peter Parker (Benjamin Valic), Miles Morales (Jakari Fraser) and Gwen Stacy (Lily Sanfelippo). They’ll face threats from the likes of the Green Goblin (JP Karliak) and Doctor Octopus (Kelly Ohanian), all of it set to music from Stump.

In an interview with Billboard, Stump admitted that he’s a longtime Spider-Man fan, which is why he was so eager to work on the animated show:

"Composing and writing all of the music for the series has been incredible because I am such a big Spidey fan. The theme song for Spidey and His Amazing Friends, you couldn’t pull me away from the studio after I recorded it because I just wanted to add more stuff. I was just so excited."

Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump loved writing for these Spider-Man characters

The most prominent music Stump wrote for Spidey and His Amazing Friends is the show’s theme song, but he was also tasked with creating background music for each character. The singer-songwriter needed to learn to play multiple instruments, including the trombone, in order to make it all happen.

“The really fun ones for me were Green Goblin — I was thinking about this troll, polka-kinda feel because he’s scary but also weird,” Stump said. “He’s a very strange villain. My favorites one hands-down was Black Panther. I had to do the talking drum, I just had to reference it. It just feels like Black Panther. It’s incredible: I get to write music for all these characters that I’ve been attached to since I was a little kid.”

Since Stump has young kids of his own, the opportunity to work on a series geared at preschool-aged viewers was particularly rewarding. He told Billboard that his children are “so excited” for Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends.

They won’t have long to wait for the new series either. The new Spider-Man cartoon premieres on the Disney Channel and Disney Junior on August 6 at 9:00 a.m. EST.
