Watch an armorer making a working version of Beric Dondarrion’s flaming sword from Game of Thrones. No need to worship the Lord of the Light for it to work.

Game of Thrones is full of swords, spears, crossbows, warhammers…medieval weapons of each and every kind. But ordinary weapons are such a bore; call me when you light something on fire and then fight someone with it.

Luckily, Game of Thrones has that covered too. The character of Beric Dondarrion used a flaming sword as his trademark weapon, wielding it against the Hound in season 3 and against the dead in season 8, when he was finally felled for good.

Could something like that be made in our world? YouTube channel Faraway Forge has it covered. In the video below, the man takes you through each and every step of the process before the big fiery finish:

Okay, I don’t know the technical terms for any of this, but by my count he hammers the sword, traces it, grinds it, puts it on a flaming bed of charcoal, submerges it, polishes it until it’s reflective, coats it in some kind of film, builds the pommel, connects it to a circuit board, crossing a few wires, and finally lights the thing up like it’s the Fourth of July.

Don’t try this at home…unless you have all the equipment and know-how, which I’m guessing is a pretty tall order.

I like the way the video doesn’t have any speech in it. It’s kind of like sword-making ASMR.

Next. All the actors in House of The Dragon, and who they’re playing. dark
