Westworld season 4: Synopsis, cast, trailer and more
Westworld is one of HBO’s most innovative and imaginative series to date. After receiving a fourth season order in June 2020, production on Westworld season 4 finally got underway in June 2021, but don’t expect the show to return any time soon.
Westworld season 3 premiered in 2020 and it will likely be 2022 before the new season arrives.
Westworld season 4 synopsis
There is no official synopsis of Westworld’s fourth season, but after season 3 the stage is set for a big war against humans as the now-sentient hosts have left the park and infiltrated the real world. They have an ax to grind after years of subjugation, but there are some hosts who don’t want to see a war and they’re trying to keep the peace.
Westworld season 4 cast
There will be lots of familiar faces in season 4, including Thandie Newton (Maeve), Jeffrey Wright (Bernard), Ed Harris (the Man in Black) and Tessa Thompson (Charlotte). Aaron Paul, who joined the cast in season 3 as Caleb, will also be back. Evan Rachel Wood may also be back as Dolores, although the events of season 3 have made that trickier.
Deadline reported in June 2021 that Aurora Perrineau will join the cast in season 4 in an as-yet undisclosed role. The Prodigal Son alum is set to appear in at least five episodes.
Watch: Westworld season 4 trailer
There is no trailer for Westworld season 4 as of August 2021. This makes sense, as production only recently began and production had to pause in July 2021 as a result of positive COVID-19 tests on set.
As soon as a trailer is available, you’ll be able to find it here.
More on Westworld season 4
Westworld has been growing since its first season, spilling outside the confines of the futuristic theme park. But the park remains as present in the story as hosts break free of their bonds and discover new themed areas (like fascist Italy) that lead to trouble.
It’s quite possible that season 4 will mark the end of the series given that so many cast members are working on other projects and the pandemic pushed schedules into total disarray, but at the same time the show’s ability to create bold new stories in the world that has been established could allow it to move forward into new territory.
