Filming on The Marvels — formerly known as Captain Marvel 2 — kicked off this week, with Samuel L. Jackson sharing a photo from the set to celebrate. The Marvel star posted a behind-the-scenes image of Nick Fury’s recognizable facial hair on his Instagram account:
“Guess what time it is!” Jackson wrote. “Back in the box, just in The Nick of time!”
Jackson wasn’t previously announced for the Captain Marvel sequel, but his post confirms the film will see Nick Fury back in action, reuniting with Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers. And Carol’s Captain Marvel won’t be the only superhero in the spotlight this time around.
The Marvels will also bring in WandaVision‘s Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Paris) and Ms. Marvel‘s Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani). How the three heroes will get along — with each other and with Nick Fury — remains a mystery, but it’ll be nice to see a Marvel filmed helmed by not one, but three, female leads.
Brie Larson also gave a production update about Captain Marvel 2
Speaking of Captain Marvel 2‘s female leads, Samuel L. Jackson wasn’t the only person to confirm that the sequel is in production. Larson spoke with Sirius XM about working on the film. From the sound of it, Marvel fans can anticipate a pretty grand setup from The Marvels:
"It’s a really unique experience. I’m a huge fan of Disneyland, so to me it feels like I get to go to my own private Disneyland every singe day. Because they’re building all of these insane worlds that no one else knows about, no one else gets to see. You’ll see it when the movie comes out but for now it’s just mine. I’m in sets that are bigger than you can imagine right now. It’s really special."
Unfortunately, we won’t get to see what Larson’s referring to for quite some time. The Marvels doesn’t arrive until November 11, 2022, meaning there are plenty of other MCU projects to dive into first.
