Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is no stranger to major movie franchises; just look at his roles in the Fast & Furious and Jumanji films. He’ll also be joining the DC Extended Universe as Black Adam soon, which has fans wondering if he’d ever consider joining another superhero franchise: Marvel.

Despite working with Disney and finally dipping his toe in the superhero genre, Johnson has yet to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He hasn’t even had a cameo, something a number of celebrities have jumped at the opportunity to claim over the years.

During an interview with Collider, Hiram Garcia, who co-founded Seven Bucks Productions with Johnson, was asked if his partner ever considered joining the MCU. According to Garcia, the Jungle Cruise star has already had a few conversations with Marvel Studios, though they’ve never amounted to anything official:

"DJ and Kevin [Feige] have a great relationship and we’ve flirted around a few ideas before, but nothing serious. There’s a mutual admiration for what we each have been doing and what Kevin has built over there is truly incredible."

Dwayne Johnson and Hiram Garcia are “committed” to Black Adam

Although there’s clearly respect and interest regarding what’s happening at Marvel Studios, Garcia emphasized how dedicated he and Johnson are to Black Adam. According to him, they set their sights on the DC character a long time ago. Naturally, they’re excited to turn their dream into a reality with the upcoming film:

"Ultimately though for us, we’ve always been very committed to what we wanted to build with Black Adam. Black Adam was the character we wanted to bring to life and who we felt DJ was destined to play. Once we set our sites on this character over a decade ago it was hard to imagine DJ plaging anyone else."

To be fair, Johnson hasn’t even taken the character to the big screen yet, and many DC fans would already agree with Garcia. The Rock is an ideal fit for this anti-hero. With his casting drumming up so much excitement, Marvel will have to wait on an appearance.

Black Adam is currently slated to arrive in theaters on July 29, 2022.
