Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings film series is a sprawling adaptation of author J. R. R. Tolkien’s fantasy classic that’s filled with battles, friendship and bravery. Now you and your friends can recreate all three movies with this new edition of the strategy board game, Risk.
Risk: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Edition lets two to four players gather and begin the quest from the Shire to the fires of Mount Doom to destroy Sauron and the One Ring. Inside the box, there’s a detailed map of Middle-earth that charts the journey of the Fellowship. Along the way, players will use over 100 territory cards, adventure cards, and Battalion cards to lead armies to the ultimate clash.
Those who have played Risk before know that some cards will prompt you to embark upon secret missions, and this version of the game is no exception. Beyond that, the instruction booklet also offers alternate ways to play the game, just in case you want to move beyond the classic Risk format.
The game itself is based solely on the movies, not the books, so you’ll see designs based on Jackson’s vision of Middle-earth, including player tokens modeled on his cave trolls, Ringwraiths, and eagles.
