Star Wars fans got a shock when they watched the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, the episode where Luke Skywalker showed up to whisk Baby Yoda away so he could be instructed in the ways of the Jedi.
The Mandalorian takes place after Return of the Jedi but before A New Hope, so Luke Skywalker is still a pretty young guy; it’ll be a long while before he’s the crotchety hermit we meet in The Last Jedi. And yet Luke was played by none other than Mark Hamill, who played him back in the original trilogy. De-aging technology can work wonders!
But will Hamill keep playing Luke in The Mandalorian season 3, assuming Luke shows up again at all? That de-aging stuff is expensive, so maybe it’s time for Disney to hire an actor who kind of looks like a young Mark Hamill and have him step in. And fans are pretty united on who this should be.
Sebastian Stan is a good choice to play young Luke Skywalker
How much does Marvel veteran Sebastian Stan look like Luke Skywalker? Artist Ryan Smallman gives us an idea:
If Disney wanted to keep de-aging Mark Hamill so he could continue playing Luke Skywalker, I don’t think many people would complain. But if Hamill wants a rest, Stan is the perfect replacement.
Will Sebastian Stan play Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian season 3?
Unfortunately, we’ve heard nothing about Stan actually coming in to play Luke, nor anything about Luke even featuring in future Star Wars shows. But we’re watching The Mandalorian season 3 and Sebastian Stan shows up in those signature robes, we called it.
