Kit Harington: There’s “a pain” over Game of Thrones fans who vocally hated the ending
By Dan Selcke
Game of Thrones ended over two years ago, and it did not go quietly. There were a lot of fans who hated the way the stories of Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen the rest wrapped up, to the point where many still grouse about it today.
How does it feel to see that if you’re someone who actually appeared on the show? Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow for all eight seasons, recently talked about it to USA Today. “There’s definitely a pain when people responded in certain ways to it, but I don’t know what I was expecting,” he said. “It’s very difficult to finish anything that is that long. People will always have their opinions and feel let down or disagree with certain things. I’m still very proud of the whole thing. My process since finishing that show is learning to be proud of what we did. The fact that some people were upset with the ending just shows how much it impacted people, and that’s a wonderful thing. I’m still processing it all, but I’m proud of it.”
Happily, Harington has plenty of wonderful memories from his time on the show to hold onto. He met his wife Rose Leslie there, for instance, and when she was playing Jon Snow’s lover Ygritte, no less. “We were on an amazing TV show that was going global; we were in Iceland playing lovers. The whole thing felt horrifically romantic,” he said. “So it’s nice doing something like this where it’s two people meeting for the first time and you can transport yourself to what butterflies felt like.”
Will Jon Snow get a Game of Thrones spinoff?
While Kit Harington is done with Game of Thrones, HBO isn’t. The network is developing a number of Game of Thrones spinoffs. Might one of them even involve Jon Snow? He was alive at the end of the series finale, after all.
“[There have been] no discussions, God knows,” Harington said. “I’m really looking forward to seeing House of the Dragon. I’m a really big fan of Miguel (Sapochnik, an executive producer and director), who’s doing that. I think there’s going to be a rawness about watching it for me, feeling so emotionally attached to that series. But I’m going to watch it because I want to support his work and I wish the people continuing that story the best of luck.”
Kit Harington: “I might find it hard” to watch Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon
House of the Dragon is the only Game of Thrones spinoff we know for sure is happening; it’s coming to HBO next year. In a different interview, Harington reiterated that while he plans to watch it, it might be “painful” for him. “There’s so much tied up in that that I might find it hard. But I would like to watch it and support him and support his work and I wish them the best with that. I can only wish HBO the best with that show.”
You can see Harington now in the Amazon Prime Video series Modern Love, a romantic comedy show that’s a million miles from Game of Thrones.
