The eleventh and final season of AMC’s beloved zombie drama The Walking Dead is finally here, but many are already thinking beyond that. Soon after the final season, we’ll be getting a spinoff show chronicling further adventures with fan favorites Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride). We don’t have any major details on this spinoff yet, but Norman Reedus has revealed that it will feel “very different” from anything we’ve seen before!

Both McBride and Reedus hold a special place in the heart of all Walking Dead fans. Having both started in season 1, they are the two longest-running cast members. We’ve seen their ups and downs, their fallouts and reunions, and how they make a fearsome duo. While the final season will further build on their relationship, it appears as if that still won’t be enough.

“When we do come back for more, I think it’s gonna be a very different look, a very different show, a very different feel,” Norman Reedus told TheWrap about the spinoff. And that’s about all we’re getting at the moment.

Besides the Carol-Daryl series, we’re also getting an anthology show called Tales of The Walking Dead and some movies featuring Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), not to mention more of current spinoffs Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Besides the Carol-Daryl series, we’ll also see an anthology show titled Tales of The Walking Dead and some movies following Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). According to AMC boss Scott Gimple has even teased that there’s a Walking Dead comedy spinoff in development.

If you thought The Walking Dead was dead, you would be wrong. There are more projects in development now than ever before!

Reedus and McBride explain their emotions over the show ending

But before any of that, we still have a mammoth 24-episode final season to enjoy. Melissa McBride opened up about the mother show finally ending. “It feels weird,” she said. “I’m not really thinking about it. I don’t think about it being the end or the final season, I think just because of where I am. I know everybody is, but I’m just focused on work. And it seems so far off. I know it’s going to come out as quick. But it just seems, you know, we have many more episodes to go and I kind of don’t think about it.”

Meanwhile, Norman Reedus is feeling “bittersweet” about the experience. “We’ve all put so much work into this,” he said. “It’s been such a big part of our lives for so long. You know it’s going to end one day, but I think the news that it was ending at all sort of shook us, to be honest. But you know, it’s, I don’t know, it’s bittersweet. It’s kind of surreal. It doesn’t feel like it’s really happening, although I know it’s happening. And it’s happening right now. It’s a weird feeling.”

"You put so much work into it, it’s hard to let go of it. You want to see it to the end, you kind of wanna bookend it. Especially, I think, for us because we started it."

McBride offered her final thoughts: “One of these days I’m gonna go, ‘Oh my god, there’s two episodes left. Oh, my God, we’re having a big wrap party.'” All I ask is that we get some photos!

The Walking Dead season 11 premiere, “Acheron: Part I” is now available for AMC+ subscribers. For everyone else, the episode airs on August 22!
