Avatar: The Last Airbender has seen a resurgence in popularity since it became available on Netflix in 2020, which prompted Nickelodeon to create an entire studio dedicated to making new Last Airbender content. And that’s on top of Netflix making its own live-action remake of the original animated show.

Despite concerns about the remake’s quality after original series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko bowed out, Netflix is moving forward with the show. Following months of radio silence, we met the actors who will play Aang, Katara, Sokka and Zuko last week.

Although they’re young, these actors already have established careers in the industry. In fact, Dallas Liu has an unnamed role in Marvel’s upcoming film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

On the red carpet for Shang-Chi, which hits theaters on September 3, Liu briefly teased his appearance as the brooding Prince Zuko in Netflix’s The Last Airbender show:

During his conversation with Variety, Liu promised the first season of Netflix’s The Last Airbender show will have plenty of action for Prince Zuko. That won’t come as a surprise for fans who watched him pursue Aang and his friends during the first season of the animated series.

Those fans will be pleased to know that Liu brings martial arts skills to the role, which will no doubt come in handy when he’s firebending. Liu couldn’t reveal much more about his take on the character, but he did promise to give the role his all:

"It’s a huge honor to be playing Zuko in the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. I’m just excited to give it everything I’ve got. I know the fans have been waiting for something for a long time now, so I definitely won’t let them down."

After a long and somewhat controversial wait for Netflix’s live-action series, it’s comforting to know the stars working on it are committed to doing their characters justice. Perhaps The Last Airbender fans have reason for hope after all.
