Watch this hilarious mashup of Arrested Development and Game of Thrones
By Dan Selcke
“I am not here to be queen of the ashes.” She was.
Game of Thrones and Arrested Development are both two years gone, and at first glance it seems hard to find two shows less alike. One if an epic medieval drama full of incest, dysfunctional families, and characters corrupted by greed; and one is a modern sitcom full of incest, dysfunctional families, and characters corrupted by greed.
Upon closer inspection, maybe they’re more alike than I thought, which could be why this mashup by Laurens Janssen works so well. Janssen focuses on a key stretch from season 1, when Ned Stark finds out that King Robert’s kids are actually Jaime Lannister’s bastard children but fails to maneuver his way through the situation because he “couldn’t keep his mouth shut.”
Watch below:
Janssen doesn’t quite turn all of the events surrounding Ned’s downfall into high comedy — that ominous music in the background of some scenes kinda ruins the mood — but he comes close.
Arrested Development fans will recognize some of the show’s signature bits in here, including Robert Baratheon being killed by a “loose boar” and Littlefinger being known as “Mr. F.” The whole thing is great and I would totally watch more.
You can watch Game of Thrones on HBO (and HBO Max) and Arrested Development on Netflix. Maybe I’ll play them alongside each other and see if they mash up.
