The official Eternals trailer explains how the movie fits into the MCU
By Dan Selcke
Some spicy new trailers dropped today. Let’s take a look at them, starting with the official trailer for Eternals, one of Marvel’s next big tentpole movies.
We’ve heard a lot about Eternals: it’s about a group of immortal alien beings who have been on Earth for thousands of years, protecting us Earthlings from a race of malevolent beings called the Deviants. The cast is impressive — it includes Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, and Game of Thrones veterans Richard Madden and Kit Harington — and it’s directed by Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao — but we still don’t know a ton about what actually happens in the movie…
…until now. Watch below:
Here’s why the Eternals didn’t help fight Thanos
A big question with this movie is why the Eternals weren’t involved in the fight against Thanos, or indeed any human conflict in the past few thousand years. As the Eternal Sersi (Gemma Chan) tells Harington’s character, superhero Dane Whitman, “We were instructed not to interfere in any human conflicts unless Deviants were involved.” Ah, there we go.
What’s more, the Eternals were given these instructions by their creators the Celestials, who we glimpse in the trailer. Marvel is deepening its mythology, y’all.
As for how the movie fits into the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe, apparently reversing Thanos’ universal genocide provided “the energy” for the Deviants to return…or at least that’s who I assume they’re talking about. So it’s time for the Eternals to jump into action! We can see them at it when the movie lands in theaters on November 5.
Watch the trailer for Foundation on Apple TV+
Moving on, Apple TV+ released a full trailer for Foundation, its new sci-fi epic based on Isaac Asimov’s classic novels. Check it out:
Foundation is about a mathematician who develops a way to predict how societies will progress. Unfortunately, it predicts that the galactic empire he lives in will fall, which doesn’t sit well with those on top. Watch what happens when the series premieres on September 24.
Another He-Man show is coming to Netflix
Finally, is anyone in the mood for more He-Man? Netflix just released a new animated series based on the popular 1980s cartoon: Masters of the Universe: Revelation. And now…here’s another one?
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is CG-animated this time, while Revelation was more traditional. It looks a little more geared at kids. If that interests you, it drops on Netflix on September 16.
