The first Avengers movie came out in 2012, after only five solo Marvel movies had been released. Now that total has risen to 24, not to mention all the Marvel TV shows coming to Disney+. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe having grown to such gargantuan proportions, how will the studio manage another big team-up movie? Is there a date set?
“I think we want there to be a reasonable amount of time from the Endgame to start a new saga, which is already underway and already started,” Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently told Collider. “And then you need time, as you did in Phase 1, to build that saga before you start bringing everyone together.”
I like that he says “we wanted there to be some time after Endgame before starting a new saga” and then immediately admits that one has already begun. Fans who watched Loki on Disney+ probably already know what is. And even if we have to wait awhile for a proper new Avengers movie, the films and TV shows cross over a lot more now than they used to, so we’ll still see plenty of team-ups, just not across the whole Marvel universe…for now.
Ironheart (Dominique Thorne) will appear in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever movie before getting her own Disney+ series
Speaking of crossovers, Feige also revealed that Riri Williams, a teenage genius who becomes the new Iron Man for a time in the comics, will make her debut in the upcoming Black Panther sequel before getting her own Disney+ series. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever comes out on July 8 of next year, so expect the Ironheart show sometime after that.
Ryan Reynolds is “working very hard” on Deadpool 3
Kevin Feige is talking up a storm lately, isn’t he? The Marvel Studios CEO also gave a little update on Deadpool 3 starring Ryan Reynolds. That movie has been in a bit of a weird space since Disney bought 20th Century Fox in 2019, but Feige told ComicBook.com that Reynolds was “working very hard” on the script with Bob’s Burgers writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin.
The reason Deadpool 3 is tricky for Disney is because it’s absolutely filthy, violent and foul-mouthed, which clashes with the company’s family-friendly brand. But I daresay they’ll find a way to make everyone happy.
There will be a trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home before the movie arrives in December
And in my favorite bit of teeny-tiny Marvel news, Feige gave ComicBook.com an update on the trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home. That update? There is a trailer. “Shang-Chi is coming out, the Eternals trailer just came out, but yes on December 17, we have the third in our Homecoming trilogy with Sony and Jon Watts and with Tom Holland,” Feige said. “I can only guarantee there will be a trailer before the movie comes out.”
It is a little odd that we haven’t seen anything from Far From Home when it’s coming out in a few months. It’s probably because showing even a glimpse of the movie will give away things Marvel and Sony would rather keep a surprise:
