I watched the entirety of Lucifer season 6, that’s all 10 episodes, in a two-day binge. I’ve been a huge fan of the show since the beginning, long before I ever started covering it. I tweeted with the rest of the world after it was cancelled at FOX and I cheered after Netflix brought it back. Now, as the Lucifer season 6 premiere date looms, I’m filled with gratitude because season 6 is a true gift to fans.

Lucifer has always been the little show that could. After facing cancellation at the end of season 3, the show was given a new home at Netflix where it flourished thanks to newfound creative freedom and the enthusiastic support from the streaming platform that saved it.

When it comes to Lucifer’s unorthodox path, I think of the word “serendipity,” because it’s like a guardian angel has been watching over the show since the beginning. Serendipity has followed Lucifer from the very start. The series captured the imaginations of fans all over the world when it debuted, and when it was cancelled fans rallied together in an unprecedented global social media movement to save the show. When Netflix granted the show a fourth and final season, it felt like a miracle. Of course, what was supposed to be a fourth and final season turned into a fifth season, and then the call came along for a sixth.

Lucifer season 6 is the best season of the show, period

As soon as I finished watching the final season I was immediately struck by the realization that good ol’ serendipity was back. After watching, there is absolutely no question in my mind that Lucifer was meant to have a sixth season. Season 6 is a celebration of all the things that make the show special, and it offers closure for all of the characters so that there are no loose ends.

Season 6 is easily the strongest season of the show. Each episode builds on the other. Every character shines. And those complex issues? They’re there, too. In fact, they’re the bedrock of season 6.

What happens in Lucifer season 6?

The season premiere picks up shortly after the events of the season 5 finale. Lucifer is preparing to take his rightful place in heaven, which means leaving earth behind. Saying goodbye turns out to be more difficult than he imagined, so when a murder takes place during his date night with Chloe, they both seize the opportunity to help the police find the killer even though they don’t work for the LAPD anymore.

Chloe and Lucifer working together has always been part of the show’s foundation, so seeing them continue in that tradition after everything that’s happened between them was satisfying. It’s a nice callback to how their relationship began.

There are so many Easter eggs, throwbacks and callbacks to previous seasons that fans will have plenty to enjoy during their second, third, and fourth times viewing the final season because, yes, all 10 episodes are eminently re-watchable.

Lucifer has always been a police procedural with a devilish twist. Through complex biblical metaphors, jokes, asides and some of the most clever writing you’ll ever see, Lucifer has been doling out important messages about life all along. The show has never been afraid to tackle difficult and uncomfortable issues head on, and somehow those messages hit harder when delivered from the mouth of the devil himself.

The final season brings Lucifer’s story to a close in the best way possible, and the journey to the series finale is one that is laden with memorable moments, lots of laughs, lots of tears and a team of actors and crew members doing what they do best. Lucifer season 6 has a lot of heart, and you’re going to enjoy every minute of it.
