Last week, Amazon dropped the trailer for The Wheel of Time, its adaptation of Robert Jordan’s 14-book strong epic fantasy series, and it looks about as good as fans could have hoped:

Who scores The Wheel of Time?

Pretty much everything about the trailer is solid, including the music, which has a few different levels to it — it’s soft and piano-heavy at the start, becomes more intense and string-heavy in the middle, and finally quickens into a stirring climax.

Originally, British composer David Buckley had the job of scoring The Wheel of Time show, but according to CBR, he exited the project late last year; we don’t know why. The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins revealed the new composer in a Q&A a few days ago:

"If Amazon lets this answer go through, this is me proudly announcing that we have the most incredible composer working on the show by the name of Lorne Balfe. You’ve gotten a tiny hint of his music with the reveal of the Logo, and what he’s doing is really special."

Who is The Wheel of Time composer Lorne Balfe?

Lorne Balfe is a Scottish composer who’s been in the game for a long time. He’s scored a lot of movies, including MegamindThe LEGO Batman Movie and the most recent Mission: Impossible movie (he’s also doing the next two). On TV, he’s provided the scores for shows like The Crown and His Dark Materials, which has a great opening theme:

It sounds like we’re in good hands with Balfe.

The Wheel of Time premieres on Amazon Prime Video on November 19.
