See the first footage from The Matrix Resurrections

Warner Bros. is showing us how deep the rabbit hole goes this week with a snazzy new website for The Matrix 4 (now titled The Matrix Resurrections), which comes complete with some brand new, first-look images of the movie.
If you head over to WhatIsTheMatrix.com, you’re presented with a choice: take the red pill or the blue pill. Regardless of which one you select, you’ll be greeted with new content from the yet-to-be-released movie. For example, I clicked the blue pill first — it’s the option presented to Neo by Morpheus that would let him stay in his hum-drum life and stick to the status quo. But instead of getting kicked out of the site or something, I still got taken deeper into the Matrix. My screen turned into a computer terminal, that familiar green Matrix text began to show up, and I got a teaser trailer for the film.
A similar thing happened when I clicked on the red pill, but the teaser included some different shots of the movie, and star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II narrated it. As Entertainment Weekly reports, there’s apparently 180,000 variations of the teaser on the site, all with different narrators and footage.
The Matrix Resurrections trailer coming soon
All this is leading up to the first official trailer for The Matrix Resurrections, which is coming soon. As Warner Bros. revealed today, the full trailer will drop on Thursday, September 9 at 6:00 a.m. PST, so let the countdown begin!
On top of that, Warner Bros. also revealed some first-look images from the film, many of which can be seen in the teaser trailers on the website. One shot, for example, shows Neo (Keanu Reeves) back in the dojo facing off against Abdul-Mateen. There are two other peculiar photos of Abdul-Mateen as well: one of him looking shocked as he looks at himself in a mirror and another one where he’s wearing some seriously cool sunglasses while running for his life.
The full plot for the movie has not officially been revealed, though we do know it involves Neo returning back to the fake world of the Matrix…almost as if his earlier adventures never happened. Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) will be back along for the ride as well. Currently, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s role has not been revealed, but some are wondering if he’s playing Morpheus — or perhaps a strange version of Morpheus who can barely recognize himself in the mirror.
Whatever the case, something is up in the Matrix universe. We’ll just have to see what’s going on when the trailer drops on Thursday, and when the full film comes out on December 22.
