Andrew Garfield admits he’s caught in a web of Spider-Man: No Way Home rumors
By Mia Johnson
We’re just a few months away now from Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the trailer that came out last month confirmed many of our suspicions about the film. Yes, the multiverse will be opened up in the movie and yes, we’ll get appearances from some throwback villains. But what about the return of our beloved Spider-Men from movies’ past? That part has yet to be confirmed.
Still, fans are hanging on to the idea that we’re due for an appearance by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, the last two actors to play Spider-Man before Tom Holland. And it just makes sense that they would return given the multiverse angle.
Previously (before the trailer was revealed), Andrew Garfield went hard on claiming that he’s definitely, certainly, most indubitably not in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In a new interview released by Variety, he’s tried once again to deny any possible involvement in the film. “I understand why people are freaking out about the concept of that because I’m a fan as well,” he said. “You can’t help but imagine scenes and moments of ‘Oh, my God, how f***ing cool would it be if they did that?’”
"But it’s important for me to say on the record that this is not something I’m aware I am involved in. But I know I’m not going to be able to say anything that will convince anyone that I don’t know what’s happening. No matter what I say, I’m f***ed. It’s either going to be really disappointing for people or it’s going to be really exciting."
Is Andrew Garfield in Spider-Man: No Way Home?
So there you have it from Garfield himself. He has no recollection of being involved in the new Spider-Man movie. But his word choice is so peculiar. He’s not “aware” of whether he’s in the movie? Is that something one can forget? Do you show up to the movie theater and go, “Oh wow! I was really in that all along!” Or has Marvel Studios developed a serum that makes their Spider-Man actors forget any details of the film, at the risk of one of them pulling a Tom Holland and dropping spoilers everywhere?
I don’t want to call Andrew Garfield a bad liar, but…I mean, those alleged set photos speak for themselves. But thankfully, December 17 (the movie’s premiere date) is nearly around the corner. So he only has to hang on a little longer.
UPDATE: And then this image started spreading around Twitter, which would seem to settle the matter…
