Y: The Last Man—Release date, trailer, cast and more
The future is female in Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra’s terrifying vision of a world where all of the world’s men and male creatures are wiped out, save for one man and one monkey. Y: The Last Man is a post-apocalyptic drama based on a 60-issue comic book series, and it’s heading to FX this month.
Everything is going on as usual for the people of Earth until one day all of the men get sick and die. Their deaths are instant and brutal, leaving the women to figure out how to survive. Though they’re entirely capable of functioning without men, the loss of half the world’s population, including every creature with a Y-chromosome, has catastrophic consequences, chief among them the survival of the human race.
Hidden among the survivors of the event is one man, Yorick, and his monkey Ampersand. Y: The Last Man is the story of how people try to rebuild in the wake of an unspeakable apocalyptic event.

The new series premieres on September 13, exclusively on FX on Hulu. As an FX Original it won’t be available to watch anywhere but Hulu, for now. It’s possible the series will move to the network at some point in the future.

Not surprisingly, the cast is largely female. The series also features a significant number of women working in key roles behind the camera.
Diane Lane stars as Jennifer Brown and Ben Schnetzer stars as Yorick Brown. Other cast members include Ashley Romans (Agent 355), Olivia Thirlby (Hero Brown), Marin Ireland (Nora Brady), Amber Tamblyn (Kimberly Campbell Cunningham), Diana Bang (Dr. Allison Mann), Elliot Fletcher (Sam Jordan) Juliana Canfield (Beth Deville) and Missi Pyle as Roxanne.
Y: The Last Man stands to be one of the biggest new shows of the fall as well as a bold new entry in the post-apocalyptic genre. With its innovative concept, it’s the kind of show that will have people talking from the very first episode.
