With seven books and eight movies in the original Harry Potter series, every fan has at some point made the difficult (or perhaps not-so-difficult) choice of choosing their favorite Harry Potter story. Do you enjoy the early works for the nostalgia and don’t mind how cheesy they get? Or do you prefer the latter films for how deep, gritty and emotional they become while still managing to integrate lots of heart and humor?
Whatever the case, if you haven’t thought about which Harry Potter movie is your favorite, you might want to do so now — just so you can compare it to the favorite movie of Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe.
Daniel Radcliffe’s favorite Harry Potter movie
The actor revealed the answer in a Most Searched Questions video from Wired, and he technically has not one favorite movie, but two. So, have your answer ready in your head now, and let’s see if you and Daniel Radcliffe have something in common. Quoth the Boy Who Lived:
"I actually love the fifth one, which is not one that most people cite as one of their favorites. But I got to work with Gary Oldman a bunch in it. And I was sort of a little bit older at that point, so I was able to appreciate that more. But to watch, probably the last one."
And so, let it be known that Daniel Radcliffe’s favorite Harry Potter movies are Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II.
Having done a re-watch of the series recently myself, the last movie certainly is a standout. In a way, it was like Avengers before we got Avengers. (The Marvel movie came out in 2012, whereas The Deathly Hallows Part II came out in 2011.) There are shades of Avengers: Endgame as well, with the way the film was being touted as the movie even of the century. With seven movies behind it, it was definitely exciting to see the conclusion to such an epic saga.
As for his first answer, it’s heartwarming to see Radcliffe recall Order of the Phoenix, where Gary Oldman played Sirius Black. As uncle and nephew, he and Radcliffe were a fantastic duo.
Overall, Radcliffe has two solid picks on his hands. I’m part of Team Nostalgia and happen to favor the earlier works myself. But no matter what you pick, you really can’t go wrong. (As long as we keep Fantastic Beasts out of the conversation.)
