Frank Herbert’s Dune books are known as one of the ultimate sci-fi franchises. However, those who have already completed the task in anticipation of the upcoming movie starring Timothée Chalamet will need something new to read in the meantime. 1. The Foundation series by Isaac Asimov

Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series, much like Dune, is getting the Hollywood treatment; a TV show will premiere on Apple TV+ on September 24. So now is the perfect time to start reading the first book in this seven-part series about the creator of psychohistory, Hari Seldon, and his sanctuary known as Foundation.

2. The Expanse series by James S. A. Corey

This nine-book series by James S. A. Corey has been adapted for television and already has five seasons available to watch on Amazon Prime Video. It tells the story of humans colonizing the solar system. The story follows ice miner Jim Holden as he discovers a secret in the midst of a developing interplanetary war.

3. This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone

For those who want a short sci-fi read, this Hugo Award-winning novella by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone is an excellent choice. This book deals with romance, time-travel and civilization. It’s a guaranteed good read.

4. Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons

In the furthest reaches of the galaxy, there is a world called Hyperion, which is host to the creature known as the Shrike in the Valley of the Time Tombs. A war breaks out, and a group of seven set out for Hyperion to find answers about themselves and humanity.

5. The Broken Earth trilogy by N. K. Jemisin

This trilogy by N. K. Jemisin is set on a supercontinent called the Stillness. Every few centuries, the people of the Stillness are racked by a cataclysmic period of climate change known as The Fifth Season, which is also the title of the first book.

6. The Book of the New Sun series by Gene Wolfe

The Book of the New Sun series centers around a young man named Severian who has been exiled from his apprenticeship at the Guild of Torturers on Urth because he showed mercy to his victim. Throughout these three books, Severian learns about a secret destiny and the power he possesses.
