Demand for themed weddings is on the rise, with pop culture inspiring lots of engaged couples to plan the wedding of their dreams.

Game of Thrones is a show forever associated with weddings, specifically bad ones. The Red Wedding is infamously brutal, and Joffrey and Sansa’s weddings weren’t exactly pleasant affairs, either. So it’s kind of funny that Game of Thrones-themed weddings in the real world are somewhat commonplace, and interest in them may even be on the rise.

This info comes from engagement ring brand Taylor & Hart, which looked at what kinds of weddings people were googling over the past 12 months and found some interesting results. What sorts of weddings to people want? Take a look:

  1. Star Wars weddings — 90% increase in search volume
  2. Marvel weddings — 84% increase in search volume
  3. Game of Thrones weddings — 67% increase
  4. Lord of the Rings weddings — 66% increase
  5. Cowboy weddings — 50% increase
  6. Tropical weddings — 26% increase
  7. Football weddings — 23% increase
  8. Twilight weddings — 23% increase
  9. Country weddings — 23% increase
  10. Nautical weddings — 22% increase

Now, it’s possible there are some false positives here — like, are people who search “Game of Thrones weddings” actually looking to plan a Game of Thrones theme wedding, or do they just want to watch the Red Wedding over again because they can’t turn away? Well, either way, the search volume is increasing, which is interesting by itself.

Taylor & Hart also looks at the wedding-themed stuff people post on Instagram and Pinterest. In those cases, the themes get a little more expected — beach wedding, country wedding, vintage wedding, that kind of thing — although even in those cases Star Wars, Disney and Harry Potter still make their way onto the list.

If you’re going to have a wedding, might as well make it memorable, right? Maybe don’t go full Dothraki, though. Remember what Illyrio Mopatis told us: “A Dothraki wedding without at least three deaths is considered a dull affair.” Some things are better kept dull.
