Lucifer 602 — “Buckets of Baggage”

Is Lucifer dragging his heels ahead of his departure for the Silver City? Maybe. Probably. Who knows?

Lucifer is convinced that he needs to help Carol find love after learning the new detective hasn’t been with anyone in months. Ella is a prime candidate, but she’s too traumatized by what happened to her so Lucifer embarks on a mission to find someone — anyone — to be with Carol.

Despite his efforts, Ella really does seem to be Carol’s match, as Dan had foreseen. They even share a Supercop movie obsession. Once Ella discovers the truth about Carol (he’s a recovering alcoholic), she accepts that he really is the person for her.

While Lucifer’s attention is on Carol, a mysterious new angel (played by Brianna Hildebrand of Deadpool fame) searches hell for Michael, but she’s redirected to Dan’s hell loop after learning that he came closer to killing Lucifer than anyone else in hell. She reveals that Dan can return to Earth and promises to take him here in exchange for his help.

There’s a moment in the episode when Chloe and Maze get into a big brawl because Chloe wants to spar. She’s enjoying the high she gets from Amenadiel’s necklace and Maze is all too willing to comply. It feels like this could play into a bigger story later on, because Chloe is having fun knowing that she’s practically invincible.

“Buckets of Baggage” sets Ella on the road to happiness after everything she went through in season 5. She’s still convinced that God is gone and no one is watching out for her, but little does she know she has the new head honcho in her corner and he’s not stopping until she’s happy.

There’s a sense in Episode 602 that pieces are starting to fall into place as the countdown to the end continues. While there are several new developments, including the new angel who is trying to kill Lucifer, it feels like Ella is moving toward closure. Sure, there are still quite a few episodes left but right now it really seems like she is in a good place. If the show ended right now she would be happy.
