Jensen Ackles and Karl Urban announce the end of The Boys season 3
By Dan Selcke
The Boys is a superhero show for people who don’t like superheroes; in this series, the heroes are compromised do-gooders at best and off-the-rails psychopaths at worst, and fans have loved it. The second series of the Amazon show was a big hit, and season 3 has just wrapped filming!
This comes from the stars, who have posted images of themselves heading home from the set. That includes Jack Quaid, who plays lead character Hughie Campbell, the hapless electronics store worker who gets swept up in a plot to take down the Seven, the most powerful (and most corrupt) superhero team around:
Karl Urban, who plays the superhero-hating Billy Butcher, also posted his farewells:
As did Erin Moriarty; she plays Starlight, one of the few Supes actually trying to improve things at Vought, the amoral super-corporation in charge of the Seven.
Perhaps most interestingly, new cast member Jensen Ackles posted a video drawing a parallel between his final day on The Boys season 3 and his final day on Supernatural, where he played lead character Dean Winchester for 15 straight seasons:
"Alright, gang — fun fact for you: A year ago today, September 10, 2020, was the last day on the set of Supernatural. Today, September 10, 2021, is the last day on the set of The Boys. Coincidence…?"
I mean…probably?
The guy with the horns from the Capitol insurrection is in The Boys season 3
As for what happens in The Boys season 3, we won’t spoil too much, but there have been some interesting behind-the-scenes shots going up online. They appear to depict a rally full of people supporting Homelander (Antony Starr), the worst of the Seven and the biggest villain of the series. Homelander himself shows up, so things may be about to get ugly; you don’t wanna be around a guy who’s both dangerously unstable and the most powerful creature on Earth.
Also fun: one of the people at the rally is wearing a furry hat with horns and has his face smeared with red-white-and-blue paint, a clear reference to Jake Angeli, one of the domestic terrorists who invaded the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6. Anyone who’s watched The Boys knows that it’s not afraid to get pointed with its satire, so this is very on brand.
We don’t have a release date for The Boys season 3 yet, but hopefully it’ll be out by the end of the year.
