House of the Dragon confirmed for 2022 release date
By Mia Johnson
Game of Thrones fans have waited long enough without new content to watch. We’ve missed the thrill of seeing Daenerys’ dragons fly or Cersei plot her next scheme. Nothing in television can remotely come close to the experience that is watching Game of Thrones, but something new is on the way.
There’s been a Thrones-sized hole in our world since the series finale aired in May of 2019. But now, that period of absence is finally coming to a close because House of the Dragon is coming soon.
HBO is planning to carry on the success of Game of Thrones with a slew of planned TV series, and House of the Dragon is the first of them. HBO provided a brief description of the series:
"Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the series, which is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen at the height of its power."
Of course, many fans are looking forward to watching House of the Dragon. But when does it come out? Here’s what we know.
House of the Dragon release date
According to a teaser for House of the Dragon, the series is confirmed to be coming out in 2022. For those of you hoping the show would come out in 2021, that unfortunately won’t be the case. But the good news is that 2022 is already right around the corner, so the countdown can begin.
What hasn’t been revealed yet is the actual premiere date for the series. Currently, filming is still underway. And so, once filming wraps, then we can get a better understanding of when to expect the series.
In February 2022, HBO will be holding an official Game of Thrones fan convention. Despite little being revealed right now, it’s probably a sure bet that they will have a lot to announce about House of the Dragon. And by that time, we may get a release date and even a trailer for the series.
