Star Trek: Strange New Worlds release date, cast, trailer and more
Star Trek Day 2021 delivered lots of news about the new series coming to the Star Trek universe, and one of the big announcements revolved around Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. While the official release date has only been narrowed to 2022, there were lots of cast announcements and a teaser that are helping fans get excited for the show’s arrival.
Strange New Worlds takes place in the days before the original series when Captain Pike and his crew, including a young Mr. Spock, explore the galaxy aboard the Enterprise.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds release date
Thanks to pandemic-related delays, filming for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds didn’t get underway until late spring; principal shooting wrapped in late July. Given how much visual effects work must be done in post-production, there is no way for the show to arrive by the end of 2021, so Paramount+ is committing to a 2022 release for the series.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds cast
Strange New Worlds sees Anson Mount return to the helm of the Enterprise as Captain Christopher Pike, with Ethan Peck as Mr. Spock and Rebecca Romijn as Number One. Number One’s full name has been revealed as Una Chin-Riley.
New additions to the cast include many names that are familiar to fans of the original series. Newly announced cast members include Jess Bush (Nurse Christine Chapel), Christina Chong (La’an Noonien-Singh), Celia Rose Gooding (Cadet Nyota Uhura), Melissa Navia (Lt. Erica Ortegas), Babs Olusanmokun (Dr. M’Benga) and Bruce Horak as the Andorian Hemmer.

More on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Interestingly, one of the new characters shares a name with Captain Kirk’s greatest foe, Khan Noonien-Singh. There is no word on whether there’s a connection there (there’s sure to be a connection, of course) but the idea of a distant Khan relative aboard the Enterprise is intriguing.
The trailer also revealed that the new series will feature uniforms that are similar to the ones seen in the original series, with a few upgrades and modifications.
