As The Walking Dead explores the enormous, super-advanced Commonwealth community in its final season, it appears AMC may have inadvertently spoiled a major plot point regarding one of its residents, Stephanie. Nothing gets past these fans.

Warning: potential SPOILERS ahead!

Stephanie, portrayed by Chelle Ramos in season 11, appears not to be the woman Eugene (Josh McDermitt) first interacted with over the radio in Alexandria. Not only is her voice different, an instant red herring, but a photo description on AMC’s press site described her character as “Decoy Stephanie.” However, perhaps in a panic, the image description was hastily changed back to simply “Stephanie.”

But this is the internet, and mishaps like this aren’t easily wiped from existence. The damage has been done. Clearly, something is up with Stephanie.

Who is the real Stephanie on The Walking Dead?

The woman Eugene formed a connection with over the radio in season 10 was voiced by Margot Bingham, a huge clue as to who the real Stephanie is. What’s more, Bingham was officially cast in the final season last year, and it only makes sense that we’ll be getting to know her a lot better.

Back in 2019, Josh McDermitt openly revealed that it was Magot Bingham’s voice on the other end of the radio. “Yeah, it’s Margot Bingham,” he told Insider. “I only say that because her name was in the credits. So, if they want to get mad at me, well, then they shouldn’t put her name in the credits.”

Given what we know, I’m pretty certain that Bingham’s “Stephanie” is the real one and Ramos’ Stephanie is some sort of imposter the Commonwealth is using to get information. I think the Commonwealth knows Eugene will open up to Stephanie and tell her important info about Alexandria. The decoy can then send information back to Mercer so the community can come to understand how much of a threat our group represents.

And as if all of this wasn’t confusing enough, AMC’s official image description for Bingham’s character now reads  “Max, FKA [Formerly Known As] Stephanie.” This does nothing to help clear things up.

How long will it take before Eugene learns the truth? The Walking Dead season 11 continues Sundays on AMC. For AMC+ subscribers, new episodes drop one week early.
