House of the Dragon is set some 180 years before Game of Thrones, but HBO’s prequel series will take us to some familiar locales.

HBO is currently hard at work on House of the Dragon, its follow-up to Game of Thrones. Set well over 100 years before the original show, the new series tells the story of the Dance of the Dragons, a brutal Targaryen civil war that tore Westeros apart.

Will the show be as successful as its predecessor? Who knows? But HBO is ensuring that there’s some continuity out there for fans. For instance, Hoy reports that the new series will be shooting in the Spanish city of Cáceres from October 10 through the 21. It’ll be filming in a dozen locations in the city’s historic center, which looks like it will fit this medieval show like a glove.

In fact, we already know it does, because HBO also filmed parts of Game of Thrones in Cáceres; depending on the episode, the city stood in for both King’s Landing and Oldtown. Both places are just as important in House of the Dragon as they were in Game of Thrones; in fact, we might spend more time in Oldtown considering that a couple of the main characters, including the king’s wife Alicent Hightower, hail from the area.

Not only that, but in another article Hoy reports that House of the Dragon will also film at the nearby town of Trujillo, which is also predictably picturesque, on October 19. Extras will be needed for this whole span, so they’ve got some crowd scenes planned.

Filming should go on for a while yet; by the end, hopefully HBO will have a series that enraptures audiences just as much as Game of Thrones did.
