Disney and Lucasfilm have been pretty hush-hush about the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, set during the famed Jedi’s exile on Tatooine but before he meets Luke Skywalker in A New Hope. We don’t know much besides the fact that Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen are returning as Obi-Wan and Darth Vader respectively; hopefully they’ll give us an iconic Star Wars battle or 10.

And it’ll probably stay hush-hush. Clearly, Lucasfilm knows how to keep a secret, like when Mark Hamill surprised everyone by returning to play Luke Skywalker in the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian. Still they can’t completely keep the cast from talking, and one star just gave us a clue…

Known to many as Han from the Fast and the Furious franchise, Sung Kang is now traveling to that famous galaxy far, far away. Speaking with ScreenRant, Kang talked about his character…and perhaps said a bit too much:

"I used to dress up in the cheap K-Mart plastic Halloween costumes, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, almost every single day from 8 to 13 years old. My friends and I would play pretend, we would make our own lightsabers out of toilet paper centers and stuff like that and paper towel cardboard, and to be able to be on set and see Darth Vader and see the Star Wars universe in front of me, I mean — just as a fan to be able to be part of that history is pretty amazing. I kept pinching myself to go, ‘How did I end up here?’ And, my character has a lightsaber, to go, ‘What? … It’s not a toy. It’s actually the real thing, right?’ So pretty cool."

So Kang admits to being on set with Darth Vader and that his character wields a lightsaber. If you’re a Star Wars fan like myself, the wheels in your head are turning trying to figure out what this could mean. Is he playing a forgotten Jedi, perhaps? Oh what about a Sith Lord? We’ll just have to wait and see. But thanks to Kang, we have some context, and now the theory-crafting can begin.

Side note: I was at the 2019 D-23 when McGregor came out to confirm his return as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and it is a moment I won’t soon forget.

What we know about the Obi-Wan Kenobi show on Disney+

The mystery surrounding Kang’s character notwithstanding, we do know that Joel Edgerton is playing the role of Uncle Owen and Bonnie Piesse is playing Aunt Beru. Obi-Wan Kenobi brought Luke Skywalker to Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru after Anakin went over to the dark side and Padme (Natalie Portman) died during childbirth in Revenge of the Sith. I simply can’t wait to see what happens next!

Other cast members include Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie — we know nothing about their characters as of yet but this cast is enough to get you excited in the meantime.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is currently filming, but we don’t know exactly when it’ll premiere on Disney+. Hopefully we’ll get more updates soon!
