Sian Clifford and Jonathan Aris join the already stacked cast of His Dark Materials as Lady Salmakia and Lord Roke. Only one season left!

For two seasons now, His Dark Materials has kept its head down and done a solid job of adapting Philip Pullman’s beloved fantasy trilogy. There’s only one book left to adapt: The Amber Spyglass, and HBO is staffing up.

According to Deadline, the network has tapped two excellent actors to appear in the show’s third and final season: Sian Clifford, who played Claire in Amazon’s Fleabag, will play Lady Salmakia; and Jonathan Aris, who played Philip Anderson on Sherlock, will play Lord Roke. Both characters are Gallivespians, a race of tiny people who help Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) in his war against the Authority. They’re fairly major characters, with Lady Salmakia spending a lot of time with Lyra (Dafne Keen) and Will (Amir Wilson) on their quest.

The show already has some Fleabag and Sherlock vets in the cast. Andrew Scott, who was on both shows, played Will’s dad John Parry, while Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge played his dæmon. Meanwhile, Sherlock alums Will Keen and Lindsey Duncan play Cardinal MacPhail and his dæmon respectively.

Then there’s Luther alum Ruth Wilson, who plays Lyra’s vile mother Mrs. Coulter, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who played Texan aeronaut Lee Scoresby. The show is stacked back to front with acting talent!

There’s no firm release date for His Dark Materials season 3 as of yet, but expect it sometime in 2022.
