Believe it or not, some fans of The Walking Dead are shipping a potential romance between sworn enemies Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), despite the duo being at each other’s throats in the opening episodes of season 11. It feels like a ridiculous idea, but after seeing the two forced to work together to escape a common enemy, it’s happening whether we like it or not.

Given how Negan brutally killed Maggie’s husband Glenn (Steven Yeun) back in the season 7 premiere, the idea of them becoming an item seems incomprehensible. Negan killing Glenn has gone down in TV history as one of the most infamous deaths scenes of all time. When Negan found himself locked up in a jail cell, Maggie thought it would be best to leave him to rot rather than put him out of his misery.

Then, in the season 11 premiere, “Acheron: Part I,” after they had an argument over whether Maggie was planning to put him down, “Like a dog… like Glenn was,” Negan left Maggie for dead rather than helping her, adding yet another twist to the tale.

But in the latest episode, “Out of the Ashes,” fans thought they spotted some telling stares between the two as they were locked in a house together. Negan tells Maggie that he’s willing to wait until sundown before setting out to Alexandria. When that time comes and he packs his bags, Maggie tries to stop him — followed by an awkward silence. That’s when Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) and Elijah (Okea Eme-Akwari) arrive on the scene.

What do the fans think of the awkward Maggie-Negan moment?

Was the tension between Maggie and Negan hinting at anything romantic? Probably not, or perhaps this is the beginning of the most unfathomable romance in television history. Of course, we call always count on the fans to voice their opinion on the matter. Let’s a look at some takes from Twitter:

There’s no doubt the show will continue to build on this relationship. Will Maggie and Negan find themselves closer than ever, or further apart? Will it end with blood or with romance? Only time will tell.

In the promo for episode 7, “Promises Broken,” it looks like we’re going to see more of Negan and Maggie working together. Seems he’s going to introduce her to Whisperer masks:
