The magic of the Harry Potter films was partly brought to us by director Chris Columbus, who was behind the camera for both Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and The Chamber of Secrets. And now, he’s making a TV show out of his own series for children’s books for Disney+.

The series is called House of Secrets; Columbus launched the book series in 2013 with co-author Ned Vizzini. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he got the idea after being inspired by the world that J.K. Rowling created. Here’s the synopsis of the book from Amazon:

"Siblings Brendan, Eleanor, and Cordelia Walker once had everything they could ever want. But everything changed when Dr. Walker lost his job. Now the family must relocate to an old Victorian house, formerly the home of occult novelist Denver Kristoff—a house that simultaneously feels creepy and too good to be true. By the time the Walkers realize that one of their neighbors has sinister plans for them, they’re banished to a primeval forest way off the grid."

There are three novels in the series: House of SecretsBattle of the Beasts and Clash of the Worlds. On Amazon, the first book is rated at 4.3 stars out of 5.

House of Secrets joins growing Disney+ catalog

Disney+ has an ever-growing catalog of great content, including big-name stuff in the Marvel and Star Wars universe such as WandaVision and The Mandalorian. But for the tweens and teens, Disney+ has been quietly building up a quality backlog. They’ve adapted The Mysterious Benedict Society, which wrapped last month. And R.L. Stine’s writing is getting a television revival with the anthology series Just Beyond in October.

We can probably expect House of Secrets to be geared toward that younger demographic. But if you’re a fan of the genre in general, this might be a good one for you.
