Game of Thrones star Diana Rigg passed just over a year ago. Edgar Wright, who directed her final performance, remembers how lucky he was to work with her.
Last September, Diana Rigg passed away at the age of 82. The actor made her mark onscreen many times over, as Emma Peel in The Avengers, as Tracy Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, and later in life as the indomitable Olenna Tyrell on Game of Thrones, not to mention innumerable TV, film and stage appearances in between.
We lost a great shining star that day, but Rigg does have one more movie coming out: Last Night in Soho, from Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright. Last Night in Soho in a psychological horror movie about Eloise (Thomasin McKenzie), a young woman who mysteriously finds herself transported back to 1966 in the body of a nightclub singer of the time named Sandie (Anya Taylor-Joy). Rigg plays Miss Collins, Eloise’s landlady.
Per Wiki of Thrones, Wright gave his thoughts about working with Rigg at a press conference. “It’s difficult to extricate the movie from working with her now because…the movie was quite interesting, very emotional experience to conceive and make, and now that’s all tied up with the fact that Diana is not with us anymore,” he said. “t’s desperately sad I won’t to get to have another gossipy brunch with Diana Rigg. The only thing I can take away from it is like how lucky I was to work with her and know her.”
"She’s such a professional and really prided herself on that. When we were told that she needed to finish very urgently, we knew what that meant without asking any more. We’re all so incredibly fortunate to have known her and worked with her."
Game of Thrones cast and crew members — including Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Pedro Pascal, John Bradley, Liam Cunningham and Bryan Cogman — also had wonderful things to say about Rigg after she passed.
Last Night in Soho comes out on October 29.
