DC Comics fans are about to get an in-depth look at the history of the company with an upcoming three-part documentary series coming to HBO Max. Marvel has made many programs that pay homage to that company’s storied legacy over the last couple of years, so it only makes sense that DC has its day.

There’s no name for the documentary as of yet, but it will be co-directed by Leslie Iwerks, who actually has a lot of relevant experience. Iwerks worked on The Imagineering Story and The Pixar Story, and just so happens to be the granddaughter of Mickey Mouse co-creator Ub Iwerks. Could she be the one who unites Disney and Warner Bros.?

Of course, whenever there’s anything DC Comics-related going on, Arrowverse creator Greg Berlanti is involved somehow. He will be producing the series which will take “an unprecedented look at the enduring and influential legacy of DC.”

What will the DC Comics documentary be about?

According to WarnerMedia’s press release, the docuseries will explore “the iconic comic book company’s origins, its evolution, and its nearly nine-decade cultural impact across every artistic medium.” DC Comics CCO Jim Lee is clearly excited about it:

"DC has a rich legacy of over 80 years of iconic storytelling: from the introduction of the genre-defining [sic] Super Hero Superman in 1938 to the amazing movies, TV shows, cartoons, games, and comics which have been synonymous with superheroism for generations thereafter. We are so excited to dive into this history and bring fans along this amazing journey."

This isn’t the first time that Warner Bros. has done a DC Comics documentary. Back in 2010, they produced an 89-minute movie called Secret Origin: The Story of DC Comics. It’s available to watch right now on Warner Bros. Entertainment YouTube channel for free!

No premiere date for the HBO Max documentary has been announced as of yet, but we will definitely be keeping an eye out for it. Check back for more updates!
