When do the Avatar sequels come out?

We are long overdue for an Avatar sequel. And luckily Disney and Fox will not be holding back when it comes to Avatar sequels in the near future.

This film came out in 2009, after all. And it managed to capture the attention of hoards of theatergoers, eventually working its way up to becoming the No. 1 movie in the world. For a moment, though, director James Cameron had to concede when it came to holding the No. 1 spot. Avengers: Endgame had taken over as the No. 1 one movie in the world following its premiere. But shortly after, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cameron was able to overtake that spot once again when theaters in China opened up and re-screened the film.

So, it’s been well over 10 years since our return to the land of Pandora. And every so often, Cameron or the Avatar team will tease what they can about the upcoming sequels. But just when will they come out? Here’s what Fox and Disney have planned.

When will the next Avatar movie come out?

The sequel to Avatar had been pushed back numerous times. And once production finally began, the release was also pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But, finally, it has been revealed that Avatar 2 is set to come out on Dec. 16, 2022.

Hopefully, that date will be the final date for Avatar 2 to come out. Then, on top of that, there will be several more sequels in the works as well.

As it stands, according to Collider, Avatar 3 will come out on Dec. 20, 2024, Avatar 4 will release on Dec.18, 2026, and Avatar 5 will be out on Dec. 22, 2028. So, we’ll be spending the whole rest of the decade watching Avatar movies. That is, considering the franchise is successful.

Only studios like Marvel and Star Wars would be so bold as to plan out sequels that far in advance. But considering Avatar still is the No. 1 movie in the world, there has to be a demand for more, right? We’ll just have to see how that turns out when the next Avatar movies begin hitting theaters over the next few years.
