Apparently, Star Trek icon William Shatner, Captain Kirk himself, could be heading to outer space as early as next month, according to TMZ. He’ll reportedly be on board Blue Origin’s second civilian flight, Blue Origin being the private aerospace company founded by Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, who took a brief trip beyond the bounds of mere Earth himself back in July alongside his brother Mark Bezos, 82-year-old Wally Funk, and 18-year-old Oliver Daemen. They only broke the atmosphere for a few minutes, but it still counts as going to space.

If Shatner does take this trip, he would become the oldest person to go into space. The flight is said to to scheduled for October aboard a Blue Origin Shepard rocket. According to TMZ, Shatner’s slight will be part of a documentary.

The world is celebrating Shatner’s potential trip to space…as the newscasters of the world remind us below, he’s going where no 90-year-old has gone before.

So, William Shatner could be heading to space?

As of now, neither Shatner nor Blue Origin has confirmed this information. We also don’t know who might be joining Shatner for this flight, if it does happen, nor much he’s dishing out to make it happen.

But it’s not too hard to believe given that Shatner has been pretty open about wanting to go to space. He said as much back in 2020 when he tweeted at NASA:

During last year’s Comic-Con@Home, Shatner made another mention of going up to space on a panel he was hosting about NASA’s Artemis Program. “There’s a possibility that I’m going to go up for a brief moment and come back down,” Shatner said. It looks like that possibility may become a reality.

If Shatner’s trip to space comes to fruition, he would technically be the second Star Trek cast member to go up there. The ashes of his co-star James Doohan (Scotty) traveled aboard a SpaceX rocket back in 2012.
