Visualization of Earth’s last ice age evokes the Wall from Game of Thrones

This fascinating video shows what the planet looked like during Earth’s last age. It ends up it looked a lot like the North from Game of Thrones.
Nowadays, we’re hearing a lot about how the climate is warming up. But for over two million years, the world was in the midst of an ice age that only wrapped up around 11,000 years ago, giving way to the temperate-ish climate we enjoy today…for now.
Kieran Duncan, a lecturer in communication design at the University of Dundee in Scotland, created a video to show what the city of Dundee looked like during the ice age, when the whole of it was covered by a glacier thousands of feet thick. It’s really interesting for its own sake, but some — including the good people at Science Alert — can’t help but watch it and recall the Wall from Game of Thrones, itself a towering, impassable block of ice.

“Part of the film shows what a 1 km ice sheet would have looked like on top of the [Dundee] Law, and I remember my mind being blown when [University of Minnesota Max Van Wyk de Vries] first told me about that,” Duncan said in a statement. “You hear numbers like that, but it’s only when you see what that would have looked like in relation to something like the Law, which towers above the city, that you really start to conceive of just how massive this glacier was.”
The Dundee Law is a large hill in the center of the city and the highest point in the skyline, itself shaped when the glaciers receded as the ice age came was coming to an end.
