House of the Dragon wants extras for filming at castle in Portugal
By Dan Selcke
HBO has been filming up a storm on House of the Dragon, it’s upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series. They’re been jetting around everywhere lately, giving us lots of set pictures to ooh and aah over.
And they’re not done. Working off a report from Jornal do Fundao, The Portugal News reports the show will be shooting at the Castle of Monsanto between October 26 and 31.
Located in the Portuguese district of Castelo Branco, the Castle of Monsanto looks right at home in Westeros. Placed at the top of a hill, it’s a medieval fortress complete with walled courtyards, bombardments, arched gates and more. We don’t know what it will stand in for — King’s Landing, Oldtown, Casterly Rock…but with some movie magic I could imagine them using it for just about anything.

What’s more, The Portugal News reports that the show is looking for extras, specifically men and women between the ages of 18 and 70 who live in the area. The men are asked to let their facial hair grow. Everyone must be available for long periods of filming and will undergo a wardrobe test being shooting starts.
If any of that sounds like you, you can apply to be an extra here. House of the Dragon premieres on HBO and HBO Max sometime next year.
