Growing up, I love reading the horrific books of R.L. Stine, including his Goosebumps and Fear Street series. Now we’re getting a screen adaptation of another one of his creations: Just Beyond.

This new series is based on the BOOM! Studios young adult comic of the same name, and will be released on Disney+ as an eight-episode anthology show on October 13. Just Beyond stars a handful of young, ridiculously talented stars including McKenna Grace. (How the heck does Grace have time for all these projects?! She’s in the upcoming Ghostbusters film, did a stint on The Handmaid’s Tale, and shows up in CBS’ Young Sheldon from time to time.)

There’s a lot of hype around this supernatural series, and I for one cannot wait to check it out. Watch the trailer below:

Goosebumps creator R.L. Stine returns to TV with Just Beyond

The official press release for the series describes it as a collection of “astonishing and thought-provoking stories” featuring everything from aliens to ghosts to witches and much more. With each episode, we will see new characters “who must go on a surprising journey of self-discovery in a supernatural world.”

Seth Grahame-Smith is the writer, executive producer and showrunner; he’s also one of the writers on HBO Max’s upcoming Green Lantern series. “I grew up watching Twilight Zone reruns and the original Amazing Stories with my parents,” Grahame-Smith said when the project was announced last year. “I’ve always wanted to make a genre anthology series that families could enjoy together, and do it in a way that delivered for kids and adults alike. R.L. Stine has been a part of millions of childhoods, and Disney+ has already proven itself as a place that knows how to make high-quality shows for the whole family. I couldn’t be more excited to be working with both of them.”

Stine is a part of the series as a co-executive producer. “Back in the day, we had a Goosebumps HorrorLand attraction at Walt Disney World,” he said around the same time. “It was one of the thrills of my life. Now I’m thrilled to be back with Disney for the TV series based on my graphic novels. Writing Just Beyond for BOOM! Studios has been a joy from the beginning, and I’m so happy to have the wonderful screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith bring the series to life on Disney+. How lucky can I be?”

All eight episodes will premiere on the Disney+ platform on October 13, just in time for the streaming service’s “Hallowstream” campaign!
