Watch a (very brief) teaser for Doctor Who season 13
By Ariba Bhuvad
Doctor Who fans have been waiting for a sneak peek (of any sort!) of the highly anticipated 13th season, and now we’ve got one. Well, sort of. A five-second teaser dropped unexpectedly on BBC One ahead of the network’s dance competition series Strictly Come Dancing.
The teaser is very, very brief and shows Jodie Whittaker’s 13th Doctor trying to send a message through a fuzzy signal on the television screen. All we can really make out is her saying, “Can you hear me?”
…And then that’s it.
What does it mean? Does it mean anything? Honestly, it’s such a short clip that it could mean something or nothing at all. It may also just be a way to hype up Whovians about the upcoming season. Whatever BBC’s attentions, I think it’s safe to say they succeeded.

What I did notice in the quick teaser was the logo for the BBC show Blankety Blank show up at the end. It likely doesn’t mean anything, but I can’t ignore that Blankety Blank is hosted by Bradley Walsh, who played companion Graham and sadly exited Doctor Who last season along with Tosin Cole. Whether Blankety Blank was a part of the 13th Doctor’s fuzzy transmission or if it was just a coincidence is yet to be seen, but it warmed my heart either way. Walsh and Cole became the light of the series during their time on it, and they will be sorely missed.
But hey, we’ve got John Bishop tagging in as new companion Dan Lewis next season! I think that he will be a fabulous addition to the team of the 13th Doctor and Yaz (Mandip Gill).
There has been a lot of buzz around Doctor Who, which with Bishop coming in, Whittaker and showrunner Chris Chibnall stepping out, and most recently the news of Russell T Davies returning as showrunner in 2023! Davies was responsible for reviving the series after a very long hiatus, so him coming back is very exciting. Davies is a Doctor Who genius, and I simply can’t wait to see what stories he brings to the show this time around, especially since his return coincides with the arrival of a new Doctor.
But before Davies takes over, we’ve still got Doctor Who season 13 and a few specials with Whittaker and Chibnall to look forward to. It starts later this year and will run through 2022.
