Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is firmly in a post-Endgame world, the franchise is in the process of introducing new characters and settings to build up the next generation of huge movies. At the moment, Marvel is focusing on ushering in the endless possibilities of the multiverse. But next month, we’ll see Chloé Zhao’s super ambitious Eternals hit theaters, which promises to be a game-changer for the MCU.

Starring Game of Thrones alums Kit Harrington (Dane Whitman) and Richard Madden (Ikaris), Eternals follows a race of immortal beings charged with protecting Earth from behind a veil of secrecy.  After being split up for some time, the group comes together to protect mankind from the rising threat of the malevolent Deviants.

The Eternals are very powerful, and their arrival should have a massive impact on the future of the franchise. But don’t take my word for it. Director Chloé Zhao has weighed in with her thoughts on how important the movie will be moving forward. “Let me try and say this without getting into trouble,” she told Empire magazine. “This film has huge repercussions for the future of the MCU. Huge!”

Zhao cites classical mythology and legend as some of her biggest inspirations in creating her first superhero flick, saying the film is “akin to stories of Greek and Roman gods, who live very human lives with human traits, rivalries, jealousies and frailties.”

Of course, mythology and the Marvel universe go hand-in-hand; look no further than the use of Norse mythology in the Thor movies. I’m sure inspiration from Greek and Roman stories will fit right in!

As it’s the next MCU movie to hit theaters, we can expect plenty of teasers for Eternals to be dropping over the next month. Check out the latest TV spot below, featuring plenty of magic, humor, and more of Zhao’s incredible visuals:

As well as the new spot, Disney recently sent out a press release with an all-new synopsis for the film. It reveals that the movie will take place over two time periods: past and present. This makes sense when you take into account that the Eternals have been around on Earth for 7000-ish years. The comics loved to jump around time periods, too. Check out the synopsis below:

"The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup."

Eternals arrives in movie theaters on November 5.
