It’s hard to believe that the first eight episodes of the final season of The Walking Dead have come and gone, but here we are. This leaves only 16 episodes left in the entire show, which will be split into two groups of eight episodes apiece, both airing in 2022. Following the release of “For Blood,” AMC softened the blow by announcing an official return date, as well as debuting a short teaser trailer. Take a look:

In the teaser for Part 2, we get a look at our group returning to Alexandra following their attack on the Reapers. There’s a cute scene where Daryl (Norman Reedus) reunites with Judith (Cailey Fleming). The two of them have been to hell and back.

That said, this teaser pretty much ruins the two massive cliffhangers. Firstly, in “For Blood,” Leah (Lynn Collins) fires a bunch of explosives at Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and her group. We’re left wondering if they all escape with their lives. While I can’t speak for Elijah (Okea Eme-Akwari), the trailer spoils that Maggie, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) all make it out alive. Sure, they’re main characters and we pretty much knew they were going to survive, but it would’ve been nice for them not to ruin the surprise. Moreover, we also see Judith is safe and well after getting trapped in a flooding room surrounded by walkers in the previous episode. Ruining these cliffhangers feels like a mistake.

That said, it’s good to see the Commonwealth storyline moving forward. We get to see leader Pamela Milton (Laila Robins) for the first time as she addresses her community. Then, presumably after Eugene (Josh McDermitt) spills the beans, we watch them march towards Alexandria. Might this be a blessing in disguise? Alexandria is pretty much in ruins, so it could be that the Commonwealth helps out, although it may come at a price.

The Walking Dead season 11, part 2 synopsis

AMC’s official press release also gave us a little synopsis, detailing some of the things we can expect from the upcoming episodes. Check it out:

"This February, The Walking Dead returns with many of our heroes fighting imminent hellfire under Reaper attack; while others battle Mother Nature’s torrential wrath in Alexandria. For all, their world is literally crashing down around them. Meanwhile, life in the Commonwealth is not as idyllic as it seems.  For some, hope will be renewed. Others will be pushed past the point of no return. One truth holds tight: Lives hang in the balance with each decision drastically changing their future, their chances of survival, and the state of each community."

The Walking Dead will return with new episodes on February 20, 2022. But fear not, in the meantime, we still have plenty of Walking Dead Universe content to enjoy. Currently, the franchise is airing the seventh season of Fear the Walking Dead and the final season of The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
