As The Walking Dead draws towards a conclusion, the franchise is continuing to expand at a rapid pace. Of course, we already have two spinoff shows on the air: Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond. And now, we can officially add Tales Of The Walking Dead to the list of spinoffs. AMC has officially greenlit this new anthology show, with the series set to premiere in 2022.

Helmed by Fear The Walking Dead writer Channing Powell, Tales Of The Walking Dead will have an episodic format, with stories that stand alone and in some cases tie up loose ends from earlier on in the series. There’re a ton of possibilities, from bringing back former characters to exploring how the zombie apocalypse affected other countries. It all begins next year on AMC.

The Walking Dead is a show that made television history and attracted an army of passionate and highly engaged fans,” AMC president Dan McDermott said in a statement. “We see so much potential for a wide range of rich and compelling storytelling in this world, and the episodic anthology format of Tales of the Walking Dead will give us the flexibility to entertain existing fans and also offer an entry point for new viewers, especially on streaming platforms. We have seen the appeal of this format in television classics like The Twilight Zone and, more recently, Black Mirror, and are excited to engage with fans in this new way, against the backdrop of this very unique and engrossing world.”

AMC chief content officer Scott M. Gimple, who oversees all projects in the Walking Dead Universe, weighed in with why he feels this Tales series is the perfect next step. “This series, more than any other in the Walking Dead Universe, runs on new voices, perspectives, and ideas — bringing to life stories unlike any we’ve told before,” he said. “I’m thrilled to be Channing’s consigliere, helping in every way I can to make those new visions real for the best fans in TV.”

Tales Of The Walking Dead hasn’t just come out of nowhere. In fact, AMC confirmed that it was in development after revealing that the mother show was winding down last year. But now it’s officially been green-lit. Interestingly, they announced another spinoff in development back then two, a road-show drama following Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride). However, as of now, that show has not been officially greenlit.

Fans are already mulling the endless possibilities of Tales Of The Walking Dead

Where did Heath go? How about an Alpha and Beta prequel? A backstory for Magna’s group?Perhaps even a Governor series? As you can imagine, now that the news is officially out, fans are eager to learn where these tales can take us:

The first season of Tales of the Walking Dead will last for six episodes and will begin filming in early 2022 with the aim to premiere later in the same year. As always, new episodes will air on AMC+ one week before they land on AMC.  What tales would you like to see?
