The Wheel of Time has an enormous cast of characters: here’s everyone we know will be in the first season and beyond.
Amazon is making a show based on Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series. If you’re familiar with those books, you know they tell an epic, sprawling story with literally hundreds of characters. And indeed, since announcing that Rosamund Pike would be playing the sorceress Moiraine Damodred over a year ago, there’s been a steady stream of announcements welcoming new cast members to the Wheel of Time family.
There are 2,782 characters in The Wheel of Time. While we don’t expect the show to feature them all, there are still going to be a lot of new faces to get familiar with. There have been a lot of people cast so far (some of whom we didn’t expect to show up this soon) and there will certainly be more to come. We’ve collected them all in one place.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet the people of Randland, starting with our heroes!

Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred
An Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah, Moiraine is a powerful magic-user who has dedicates her life to finding the Dragon Reborn, a messianic figure who it is said will save humanity in the Last Battle.
With an Oscar nomination for Best Actress under her belt for her performance in Gone Girl, Pike is the highest profile face in the cast so far.

Josha Stradowski as Rand al’Thor
Rand is a young farmer and sheepherder from the sleepy Two Rivers. He’s our main character, whatever his humble beginnings.
Like many of the younger cast members, Stradowski doesn’t have a ton of credits to his name, although he did start acting on TV as a teenager. After landing a role like Rand, his career is about to get a big boost.
“It was about a man whose family was taken from him, but who stood tall in his sorrow and protected those he could.” @Marcus_Rudda as Perrin Aybara #WoTWednesday #TwitterOfTime pic.twitter.com/4UTcqdpySA

Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara
A friend of Rand’s, Perrin is a young man from Emond’s Field who works as an apprentice to the village blacksmith.
Like Stradowski, Rutherford doesn’t have a ton of credits, although he was nominated for a British Independent Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer.
“It was about a woman who refused to believe that she could not help, could not heal those who had been harmed.” Zoë Robins as Nynaeve #WoTWednesday #TwitterOfTime pic.twitter.com/o8AUdHD5BZ

Zoë Robins as Nynaeve al’Meara
Nynaeve is the “Wisdom” of Emond’s Field, someone chosen by the village council to sit among them and provide knowledge and advice on topics like healing, foretelling the weather, and good common sense. Young to be Wisdom, Nynaeve is fiery and determined. It’s a potentially scene-stealing role for Robins, who up until now is best known for playing the White Ninja Steel Ranger in Power Rangers Ninja Steel.
“It was about a hero who insisted with every breath that he was anything but a hero.” @BarneyHarriso as Mat Cauthon #WoTWednesday #TwitterOfTime pic.twitter.com/OWisit2CXM

Barney Harris as Matrim Cauthon
Mat is a young farmer from the Two Rivers with a mischievous smile. He, Rand and Perrin have been friends since childhood.
British actor Barney Harris is another young addition to the cast, having been in stuff like Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk and The Hollow Crown.
UPDATE: We don’t know why, but Barney Harris will not play Mat in the second season of the show. Instead, he will be replaced by Dónal Finn:
Finn is an Irish actor who’s appeared in The Witcher, Cursed, and a few other things; this will be his biggest role.
“It was about a woman who would not bend her back while she was beaten, and who shown with a light for all who watched.” @TigerMadden as Egwene Al’Vere #WoTWednesday #TwitterOfTime pic.twitter.com/bBtUdcIT88

Madeleine Madden as Egwene al’Vere
Egwene is the youngest daughter of the mayor of Emond’s Field. She’s long been close to Rand, and rounds out our quintet of young leads.
Australian actor Madeleine Madden has a fair mount of TV work under her belt for someone so young, including stints on Tidelands, Pine Gap and Mystery Road.
"I swear to stand against the Shadow so long as iron is hard and stone abides - to defend the Malkieri while one drop of blood remains. I swear to avenge what cannot be defended." Welcome @danielhenney as al'Lan Mandragoran. #TwitterOfTime #WoTWednesday pic.twitter.com/Gg5h1ly5Zp

Daniel Henney as Lan Mandragoran
Lan is a Warder to Moiraine, meaning he’s magically bound to her as her bodyguard and protector. Henney has starred in movies like X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Big Hero 6.
